By default, InDesign strips out all the formatting from incoming text when you copy and paste it from any other application. Your authors and editors are no longer “frozen out” once layout begins. More often than not, these people have to make late-stage edits in a complex layout that was created by someone else. By contrast, if you copy and paste from one InDesign document into another, it maintains the formatting unless you use Edit > Paste without Formatting. Yes, I realize that this is what Adobe InCopy is created for, or alternatives such as Wordsflow or Docsflow. But sometimes, for a wide variety of reasons, InDesign is used instead. That’s a great feature when you need to strip away unwanted styles.
